Tapered roller bearings are bearings with tapered rolling elements. They can be taken apart and
are produced in metric and inch sizes. The rollers are guided tangentially by the cage and axially
by the big rib on the outer ring.
Because there is linear contact between roller and raceways, tapered roller bearings can carry
heavy radial loads in one direction. Moreover, they also support greater one-direction axial load
than radial load as they have large contact angle created by tapered rolling elements. When
placed in pairs, they can support axial loads in both directions. They can operate at medium
rotational speeds.
