Thrust ball bearings consist of shaft ring, housing ring and ball cage. Bearings are made of
separable components, so the ball cage and rings can be mounted separately from each other.
They usually accomodate moderate axial loads. There are types that carry unidirectional and
bidirectional axial loads.
Single-direction thrust bearings consist of shaft and housing washers with grooves where balls
rotate. On the other hand, double-direction thrust bearings consist of one shaft washer located
centrally between two housing washers, two row balls and cage assemblies that can withstand
axial forces from different directions.
Thrust ball bearings can support relatively high axial loads, but should not be subjected to any
radial loads.
The force on the bearing must not be less than a certain value, so that the balls, under the
influence of centrifugal force, do not come out of their channels during operation. For this reason,
these bearings are not suitable for high speed operations.
